Policies and Procedures

It is  important that you understand that all children utlizing the center, must have general child information sheets filled out.  Any outing that requires transportation by the Youth Center, it is mandatory that parents sign and return the Transportation Waiver. Please see the below links.

With a number of children and a variety of personalitites, we have faced some difficulties with disrespectful and aggressive behaviors from a few of our children.  To ensure the safety and well-being of the children and the staff members of Acadia First Nation Youth Center, we have created a behaviour management system for the children and adopted it as our disiplinary action policy.   It is important that the parents and children become familiar with this policy.

Disciplinary Action Policy

Disciplinary action will be taken in the following manner for the children whom disobey the rules of conduct within the center (see rules of conduct).  Children will be put on a behavior system on a weekly basis beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday.  Children can earn up to fifteen points or checkmarks within one week.  However, the following will occur:

-         Initial re-direction will result in their name being placed on the weekly behavior chart

-         A second redirection will result in their first checkmark on the behavior chart, counting as one.  This will continue until the child reaches five.

-          If a child reaches five checkmarks in one week the child will be asked to leave for the day and will not be permitted to return to the center for 24hours.  After the 24-hour period the child may return.

-         Upon retuning, the child will continue with the same number of checkmarks meaning, if the child is redirected once again, the child will earn their sixth checkmark.  This will continue until the child reaches ten.

-          If a 10th checkmark is given within one week the child will once again be asked to leave for the day and will not be permitted to return for a 24 hour period and will loose the privilege of attending all the activities scheduled for the next two weeks.

-          Upon returning the child will continue the point system with the same             number of points accumulated 24 hours prior, meaning if the child is redirected once again, the child will earn their eleventh checkmark.  This will continue until the child reaches fifteen.

-         If a child earns 15 checkmarks within one week, the child will be asked to leave the center for 7 consecutive days and will not be permitted to return until the 7 days are completed.  The child will loose the privilege of attending all schedule activities for the next 30 days.

The amount of points/checkmarks given at one time will be under the staff’s discretion depending on the severity of behavior.  For example, swearing purposely and hurting other such as hitting, kicking etc will result in a minimum of three points or checkmarks.
